A bit of a different blog this time.
One of the charities that we are raising money for is The Devon Air Ambulance Trust, and they kindly invited me along to meet the team and look at the helicopter.
Received a lovely warm welcome from them when I got there, and we were taken out to look at the helicopter.
I was amazed at how small it is inside, fitting in the pilot and 2 paramedics and patient! It's all perfectly set out in there to accommodate any kind of illness or injury and so organised.
We were told how they work as a team, helping locate patients and then administer treatment in the helicopter. Fascinating stuff, these guys are real heroes in the sky.
Others invited were other fundraisers and also patients who have had to use the Air Ambulance facility.
Amongst them were 2 young boys, twins. Their stories were quite special and has made me realise just how important it is for us to raise money for this charity.
The first boy suffered pneumonia and had to be air lifted to hospital, the boy by all accounts was minutes from death and wouldn't have been there if it wasn't for the ambulance and the paramedics.
The second twin only 3 weeks ago was pushed by his brother from a trampoline and knocked himself out. Due to the remote location of where they live he had to be airlifted to hospital.
3 weeks on and the cheeky little wotsit was on fine form, happy and healthy!
I spoke to their Dad at length about the work of the Air Ambulance and he was very emotional about how they had saved the first twin and was very supportive of our fundraising effort bu doing the coast path run.
As I was having my photo taken with the paramedics and pilot a call came in and off they went to North Devon.
We got to see them prepare and take off!
The smell of the helicopter taking off reminded me of the smell that used to be at Redhill Aerodrome when I used to go and see my Dad at work. It was like having him there with me, like he was saying, that's why your doing this run. I hope it makes him proud.
Back running again tomorrow so more pretty pictures of coast will be on my next blog.
Have a great weekend :)
